Sullivan teacher obtains grant

Marie Montalvo, a fifth grade Science teacher at Sullivan Elementary, has earned a $500 grant from the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation. Joining Montalvo are foundation representatives from left, Esther Waters, Principal Bobbie Jo Hushen, Ofelia Estevis and Chiqui Guerra. Montalvo is a Master Naturalist and sponsors the school’s Explorers Science Honors Club. Montalvo has previously secured other grants, including grants from the Native Plant Society, a Lady Bird Johnson grant, and a Stripes grant. She also obtained $1,000 grant from the National Butterfly Center in Mission providing fifth graders an opportunity to visit the center.
