Riverside Middle School leaders and Communities In School personnel partnered with area styling salons to provide free haircuts to students in preparation for a new school year.
This marks the first time that the school provides this event for students, according to the school’s CIS site coordinator Marisela Montalvo, who spearheaded efforts for the event.
Principal Marcus Ysasi said, “Next year, we plan on doing the same thing during the school registration so we can impact many more students.”
By providing a complimentary haircut to students before school starts, students and parents will have one less thing to worry about, Ysasi added.
The following salons assisted with the project:
- Juanita’s Beauty Salon
- Monica’s Beauty Salon
- Sylvia’s Beauty Salon
- Olga’s Full Service Salon (Sulema Torres)
- Shear Experience Barber Shop (Yolanda Garza)
The school also had assistance from Communities In Schools Site Coordinator Irma Galvan and parent volunteer Maria De La Fuente.
