Dr. Vega selected as San Benito CISD Superintendent

SAN BENITO – The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees unanimously selected Dr. Adrian Vega as the district’s Superintendent of Schools during a regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8 after having named him the lone finalist during a Special Board Meeting held on Wednesday, November 4.

Board President Anna Cruz and members of the board provided a warm welcome for Vega, who was in attendance at the meeting.

“On behalf of the board, I’d like to welcome Dr. Adrian Vega to San Benito CISD. We look forward to working with him so that together, we can continue moving the district to the next level. We are excited about having Dr. Vega on our team and we anticipate many wonderful things to happen with him as our next leader,” Cruz said.

She added, “As a board, we will stay focused on working as a team. We are eager to support Dr. Vega as he takes the helm in this great district of ours!”

This week, Dr. Vega has had an opportunity to spend time visiting several schools. He also met with principals, department heads and key district leaders.

Dr. Vega, who is encouraged by the support of the board, is looking forward to leading the district. He officially begins his duties on Monday, January 4.

Dr. Vega previously served as the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning with the Tucson Arizona Unified School District since July 2013. Although Dr. Vega has been in Arizona since 2013, he also has experience working as an educator in the state of Texas, including experience as a high school principal with the Ector County Independent School District
and as a middle school principal with the Tyler Independent School District.

He has also worked with the Dallas Independent School District, serving as a Superintendent Intern and as a Novice and Aspiring Principals Specialist with the Professional Development Department.

Vega has also held other positions with Dallas ISD, including the following: Instructional Specialist with the Alternative Certification Department, elementary assistant principal, elementary school Community Liaison and elementary bilingual teacher.
