Miller Jordan Middle School Principal Alfredo Perez has announced that on September 24, four female students from Miller Jordan Middle School competed in the Texas Girls’ State Championship Chess Tournament at Sam Houston Elementary in La Feria. The girls earned back-to-back champion honors, defending their title yet again.
As a team, they won first place and are the Three-Time State Champions. Individually, Reyna Bautista, a 7th grader, is ranked 11th; Alexis Del Rio, an 8th grader, is ranked 9th; Ilse Bautista, an 8th grader, is ranked 5th; and Angelica Vasquez, an 8th grader, is ranked first as a Co-State Champion, along with three other players. The girls are set to compete in the All Girls’ Nationals Tournament in Chicago, IL in April.
